HGSF Mission

The Horace Greeley Scholarship Fund (HGSF) mission is to "Deliver the Dream" of education.

The HGSF has been providing grants to Greeley graduates for more than half a century, and yet we realized there was still some confusion about what aspect of "education" we support! Our new name, Horace Greeley Scholarship Fund, states more clearly our role to students, parents and in the community.

The HGSF has existed since 1946 to make up "the difference" between actual costs and all other financial resources available to students and their families (i.e. loans, scholarships, work-study, student savings and parent contributions.)

Grant recipients are selected by the HGSF Grants Committee composed of from three to five directors of the Fund, a HGHS vice-principal, a guidance counselor and a Chappaqua Board of Education representative. All members of the HGSF Board of Directors are local residents and/or HGHS alumni.

The application procedure is confidential, and recipients are known only to the selection committee.
